AudioControl EPIC1500 — 1500W RMS Monoblock Amplifier

The EPIC1500 is a compact Class D monoblock from AudioControl's EPIC Series, rated at 600W RMS into 4Ω, 1000W into 2Ω and 1500W into 1Ω at 14.4V and under 1% THD. It is built as a dedicated subwoofer amplifier, with its filtering, bass boost and remote level control all aimed at the low end.

Key Design Features

Filtering is handled by a 12dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley low-pass adjustable from 40Hz to 180Hz and a 12dB/octave subsonic filter adjustable from off to 50Hz. EPIC Boost adds a variable-frequency bass boost, with the center frequency adjustable from 30Hz to 80Hz and up to +12dB of gain.

The included ACR-E remote level control mounts in the dash for subwoofer level adjustment from the driver's seat. Power and speaker terminals use hex-screw clamps, and AudioControl's auto-reset protection circuit covers over-current, over- and under-voltage, DC offset and over-temperature faults.

System Application

The EPICENTER Link output supplies power, ground and remote turn-on to The EPICENTER or The EPICENTER Micro through the included 1-meter harness, so an EPICENTER-based bass system can be wired from the amplifier rather than with separate runs.

Two EPIC1500 amplifiers can be strapped together for 3000W RMS into a 2Ω load. AudioControl specifies that both amplifiers must be the same model, the minimum load is 2Ω, and all adjustments are made from the primary amplifier.

Installation Considerations

AudioControl specifies 4 AWG power and ground wire, a 150A fuse and 8 AWG speaker wire. Inputs are line-level only (500mV to 12V RMS); a factory radio without RCA outputs will need a line output converter such as the LC2i PRO or The EPICENTER Micro PRO ahead of the amplifier.

The EPIC1500 is matched to a subwoofer system at the 1500W-into-1Ω level, or 1000W at 2Ω. The deciding factors are the final wired impedance of the subwoofer, whether an EPICENTER is part of the plan, and whether a second EPIC1500 may be added later for strapped operation.
