The ASP-OE2 is a two-channel OEM signal adaptor with bass recovery and a 9.5-volt pre-out. It converts factory speaker-level output to line level while restoring low frequencies the factory system removes.

The Problem Bass Recovery Solves

Many factory head units progressively roll off bass as volume increases. The reason is protective: factory speakers are small, and reducing low frequencies at high volume keeps them from exceeding their excursion limits.

That behaviour is sensible for the speakers it was designed around and unhelpful for everything else. Feed that signal to an aftermarket amplifier and subwoofer, and the bass will fade exactly when the system is being asked to play loudly — not because the amplifier or woofer is running out, but because the signal reaching them has already had the low end removed.

Bass recovery restores those frequencies after conversion, so the amplifier receives a full-range signal regardless of what the factory unit did to it.

9.5-Volt Pre-Out

Output is a 9.5-volt pre-out rather than standard line level. The higher voltage improves signal-to-noise through the run to the amplifiers — the noise the cable picks up stays the same, but it rides on a larger signal, so amplifier gains sit lower and amplify less of it.

A factory-source system where the head unit is staying and bass is being added — particularly in vehicles where the factory system audibly loses low end as volume rises.

If your factory system does not roll off bass, the simpler ASP-OEB covers the conversion without the added circuitry. If more than two channels need capturing, the ASP-OE8 handles eight with signal summing.

Installation Considerations

Confirm the rolloff is actually happening before relying on bass recovery to fix it. Play a low-frequency tone and raise the volume; if the low end drops away as level increases, the factory unit is limiting it and this adaptor addresses that. If it does not, the recovery circuit is solving a problem you do not have.

Set amplifier gains after installation, and expect them lower than usual given the 9.5-volt output.

Bass recovery addresses one of the more frustrating problems in factory integration, because the symptom points at the wrong component.

A subwoofer that sounds strong at moderate volume and thin when pushed reads like an amplifier or driver limitation. Often it is neither — the signal arriving at the amplifier simply has less bass in it than it did a moment earlier. Testing for the rolloff before assuming the fault lies downstream saves replacing hardware that was never the problem.
