Zapco ASP-OEB — 2-Channel OEM Signal Adaptor

The ASP-OEB is a two-channel OEM signal adaptor with a 9.5-volt pre-out. It converts speaker-level output from a factory head unit or factory amplifier into line-level signal suitable for an aftermarket amplifier.

It is the simplest unit in Zapco's OEM adaptor range — conversion and level, without additional processing.

Why Speaker-Level Conversion Is Needed

Most factory systems provide no line-level outputs. The signal leaving the head unit has already been amplified for the factory speakers, at a voltage far higher than an aftermarket amplifier's input expects.

An OEM adaptor takes that amplified signal, converts it back to line level, and presents it as a standard RCA output — so the factory source can drive aftermarket amplification without being replaced.

9.5-Volt Pre-Out

Output is a 9.5-volt pre-out rather than a standard 2-volt line level. That higher voltage improves the signal-to-noise ratio through the cable run to the amplifiers: the noise picked up along the way is unchanged, but it rides on a much larger signal, so amplifier gains can be set lower and less noise gets amplified.

In a factory-integration install — where the signal is already travelling through a vehicle full of electrical noise — that margin is worth having.

System Application

A two-channel factory-source system where the head unit is staying and aftermarket amplification is being added: a front stage upgrade, or a signal feed for a subwoofer amplifier.

Where the factory system applies bass rolloff at higher volumes, the ASP-OE2 adds bass recovery to address it. Where more than two channels need capturing, the ASP-OE8 handles eight with signal summing. This unit covers the straightforward case.

Installation Considerations

Take signal from the factory speaker outputs before any factory processing you are trying to avoid, where the wiring allows it.

Set amplifier gains after installation and expect them lower than usual — a 9.5-volt input needs considerably less gain than a 2-volt one.

HF Audio Perspective

OEM adaptors are the quiet foundation of most factory-integration systems, and the choice between them comes down to what the factory source is doing to the signal.

If it hands over a clean full-range signal on two channels, the ASP-OEB is all that is required and anything more is unused. If it rolls off bass with volume, or splits frequencies across several channels, the OE2 and OE8 exist for those cases.

Work out what the vehicle actually does first. The right adaptor is the one matched to the factory system's behaviour, not the one with the most features.
