The ASP-X4 is a four-channel electronic crossover configurable for two-way, three-way, or four-way operation, with a 9.5-volt pre-out. It divides a full-range signal into as many as four bands at line level, ahead of the amplifiers.

Configurable Band Count

The ability to run 2, 3, or 4 way is what separates this from a fixed crossover. A system rarely arrives at its final architecture immediately — a two-way front stage with a subwoofer becomes a three-way when a midrange is added, and the crossover has to follow.

Here that is a configuration change rather than a component change. The same unit covers a two-way build, a three-way active front stage, or a four-way system with dedicated bands for subwoofer, midbass, midrange, and highs.

Filtering Before Amplification

Dividing the signal at line level means each amplifier only receives the band its drivers reproduce. The amplifier's output goes entirely into that band rather than into frequencies the driver will never produce, and the crossover point stays adjustable rather than being fixed by a passive network's component values.

In a three- or four-way system that matters more than in a two-way, because there are more crossover points and each one is a place where the drivers either integrate or do not.

9.5-Volt Pre-Out

The high-voltage output improves signal-to-noise through the run to the amplifiers. With four bands feeding potentially four amplifiers, that advantage applies across every cable in the system — higher signal level, lower amplifier gains, less amplified noise.

A multi-amplifier active system — three-way front stage with subwoofer, or a four-way build — where the requirement is crossover control rather than full digital processing.

It suits a builder who wants adjustable crossover points set by ear and measurement, without introducing software into the signal path.

Installation Considerations

Decide the band configuration before wiring. Two-, three-, and four-way modes route the outputs differently, and the amplifier connections follow from that choice.

Mount where the adjustments stay accessible. Crossover points get revisited as a system develops, and a unit buried behind trim discourages exactly the refinement it exists to enable.

The ASP-X4 fits a system being built in stages, which describes most systems honestly.

Because it covers two, three, and four-way configurations, the crossover does not have to be replaced when the front stage grows from two-way to three-way — a change that otherwise means new hardware or a compromise. For a builder who intends to develop the system over time but does not want a DSP in the path, that flexibility is the argument for it.

Where time alignment is needed, this is the wrong tool and a digital processor is the right one. Where the requirement is dividing bands cleanly and adjustably, it does exactly that.
