AudioControl EPICBIGFOUR — 1400W RMS 4-Channel Amplifier

The EPICBIGFOUR is the highest-output 4-channel amplifier in AudioControl's EPIC Series, rated at 200W RMS x 4 into 4Ω, 350W RMS x 4 into 2Ω and 650W RMS x 2 bridged into 4Ω at 14.4V and under 1% THD.

Key Design Features

Each channel pair has both a high-pass and a low-pass filter, each 12dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley, switchable off or adjustable from 50Hz to 5kHz. That range allows the pairs to run full range, high-passed, low-passed for subwoofer duty, or band-passed for a midrange or midbass. An Input Mode switch selects 4-channel input, or 2-channel input with the CH1/CH2 signal routed to all four channels.

The included ACR-E remote provides dash-mounted level control, and the amplifier is listed by AudioControl as compatible with The EPICENTER bass restoration processor. Terminals use hex-screw clamps, and the auto-reset protection circuit covers over-current, over- and under-voltage, DC offset and over-temperature faults.

System Application

With low-pass filtering on board, one channel pair can be bridged to 650W RMS into 4Ω for a subwoofer while the other pair powers the front speakers, building a complete front-plus-sub system from a single amplifier. Alternatively, all four channels can drive high-output midrange and midbass drivers such as the EPIC PRO series.

Installation Considerations

AudioControl specifies 4 AWG power and ground wire, a 150A fuse and 8 AWG speaker wire. Inputs are line-level (500mV to 12V RMS). Minimum load is 2Ω per channel, or 4Ω when bridged.

HF Audio Labs Perspective

The EPICBIGFOUR covers systems that need 350W per channel at 2Ω, or a front stage plus a bridged subwoofer channel from one chassis. The choice against the EPICFOUR comes down to the power requirement and whether low-pass filtering is needed on board.
