AudioControl EPICFOUR — 800W RMS 4-Channel Amplifier

The EPICFOUR is a 4-channel Class D amplifier from AudioControl's EPIC Series, rated at 100W RMS x 4 into 4Ω, 200W RMS x 4 into 2Ω and 400W RMS x 2 bridged into 4Ω at 14.4V and under 1% THD. Frequency response is 10Hz to 22kHz, ±1dB.

Key Design Features

Each channel pair has 12dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley high-pass and low-pass filters, switchable off or adjustable from 50Hz to 500Hz, with a range button that multiplies the setting by ten for 500Hz to 5kHz. An Input Mode switch selects 4-channel input, or 2-channel input with the CH1/CH2 signal routed to all four channels. The chassis shares the EPIC Series 6.1-inch width and 2.01-inch height, with a 9.41-inch length.

Power and speaker connections use hex-screw terminals, and the auto-reset protection circuit covers over-current, over- and under-voltage, DC offset and over-temperature faults.

System Application

Four channels at 2Ω or 4Ω cover a front and rear speaker set. Bridged, the EPICFOUR becomes a 2 x 400W amplifier into 4Ω, which suits a pair of high-efficiency midranges or a component set with a passive crossover that needs more voltage than a single channel provides.

With the low-pass filters, one bridged channel pair can also run a modest subwoofer while the other pair powers the front speakers.

Installation Considerations

AudioControl specifies 4 AWG power and ground wire, an 80A fuse and 8 AWG speaker wire. Inputs are line-level (500mV to 12V RMS). Minimum load is 2Ω per channel, or 4Ω when bridged.
