Overview

Wāvtech link1500.1plus — 1500W RMS Mono Amplifier

The link1500.1plus is a 1500W RMS mono amplifier built on the same dual voltage rail architecture as the link750.1plus, scaled to higher output: 900W RMS at 4Ω, and 1500W RMS at either 2Ω or 1Ω depending on which output drive mode is selected.

Key Design Features

The Output Drive Mode switch sets the amplifier to 1Ω mode (default, minimum total load 1Ω) or 4Ω/2Ω mode (minimum total load 2Ω). As with the rest of the link plus series, these modes are not interchangeable at will — the switch must match the actual wired impedance of the connected subwoofer(s), and connecting a lower impedance than the selected mode allows can result in an over-current condition or a blown external fuse.

The onboard bassFREQ processor provides the same single-band parametric EQ (0 to +12dB boost, Fc 30–80Hz, Q 1.5–5) and independent −24dB/octave subsonic and low-pass filters found across the plus series, along with differential balanced inputs and dual input sensitivity ranges (5V/10V RCA, 20V/40V speaker-level).

System Application

As a mono amplifier with dual positive/negative speaker output terminals, the link1500.1plus is built for one or more subwoofers wired in parallel to reach the total nominal impedance the selected Output Drive Mode requires. The higher power ceiling relative to the link750.1plus and link1000.1mini gives the amplifier additional headroom for larger subwoofer complements or higher-excursion drivers operating at the same 1Ω or 2Ω total load.

OEM load detect compatibility and Stop-Start vehicle support are included, consistent with the rest of the plus series.

Installation Considerations

The higher power rating steps up the wiring requirements relative to the link750.1plus: 0AWG minimum for power and ground, a 150A external fuse installed within 18 inches of the battery, and 12AWG speaker output terminals. Ground runs should be no longer than 2 feet, terminated to bare chassis metal.

As with the rest of the series, the subsonic filter is identified as important for ported enclosures to prevent over-excursion below tuning frequency, and the Output Drive Mode should never be changed while the amplifier is powered.

HF Audio Labs Perspective

The Wavtech Link1500.1 Plus is an excellent match for a pair of Wavtech ThinPro 10 or ThinPro 12 subwoofers, providing the power and flexibility needed to take advantage of two low-profile subwoofers without compromising the installation.

Compared with the Link750.1 Plus, the Link1500.1 Plus provides substantially more available output and headroom, making it the better choice when running a pair of ThinPro drivers. Its dual-voltage rail architecture and flexible Output Drive Mode allow the amplifier to be configured around the actual impedance of the subwoofer system rather than forcing the system into a one-size-fits-all configuration.

For an HF Audio Labs system, that's important. The amplifier should be selected around the subwoofer load, the final wired impedance, and the intended system output—not simply by choosing the biggest amplifier available.

With two ThinPro 10s or two ThinPro 12s, the Link1500.1 Plus gives the system the additional headroom we want while maintaining the compact footprint that makes the ThinPro platform so useful in space-constrained installations.

Our recommendation: If you're building around two Wavtech ThinPro 10 or ThinPro 12 subwoofers, the Link1500.1 Plus is the amplifier we'd pair with them. Just verify the final wired impedance before selecting the amplifier's Output Drive Mode.
