Overview

Built for the install, not the spec sheet

Wāvtech link700.4plus — 700W RMS 4-Channel Amplifier

The link700.4plus is a 4-channel amplifier bridgeable down to 2 channels, rated at 100W RMS x 4 into 4Ω, 175W RMS x 4 into 2Ω, and 350W RMS x 2 bridged into 4Ω. A sixth internal processing pair, CH5/6, provides an onboard summing and bassFREQ stage that is not a separate set of powered outputs — it is either sent out through a dedicated RCA pre-out or used to override CH3/4's powered output.

Key Design Features

Each channel pair's input can be set to direct, 2-way sum, or 3-way sum, allowing the amplifier to build a full-range signal from a factory source with fewer preouts than speaker locations — a 4-preout aftermarket source or a summed factory signal can both be routed to the correct channel pairs from the top panel input select switches.

CH1/2 and CH3/4 each have independent −12dB/octave high-pass, low-pass, or band-pass filtering, with an x1/x10 multiplier that extends the adjustable range from 50Hz–500Hz up to 500Hz–5kHz for crossovers between midrange and tweeter. The CH5/6 bassFREQ section adds a parametric EQ (0 to +12dB boost, Fc 30–80Hz, Q 1.5–5) plus independent −24dB/octave subsonic and low-pass filters, intended for subwoofer signal shaping whether it's sent to the RCA pre-out or to CH3/4's powered output.

System Application

A straightforward stereo front/rear hookup uses CH1/2 and CH3/4 directly. For a front-plus-subwoofer configuration from a source with limited preouts, CH5/6 can be set to sum the available channels and its bassFREQ-processed signal routed to CH3/4's powered output via the CH3/4 Output Select switch — turning a 4-channel amplifier into a 2-channel front stage plus powered subwoofer channel without an external processor.

Adaptive loading on the speaker-level inputs accommodates OEM load detect systems, and the amplifier is Start/Stop vehicle compatible.

Installation Considerations

Power and ground wiring use 4AWG minimum, with an 80A external fuse installed within 18 inches of the battery's positive terminal. Ground runs should be no longer than 2 feet and terminated to bare chassis metal. Minimum nominal impedance is 2Ω per channel, or 4Ω for bridged connections on CH1/2 or CH3/4.

When summing signals into CH5/6 for subwoofer duty, the subsonic filter should be set at or below the enclosure's tuning frequency, particularly in ported applications, to prevent over-excursion.

HF Audio Labs Perspective

The link700.4plus makes sense for a front/rear stereo system, or for a front-stage-plus-subwoofer build where the source unit doesn't provide a dedicated sub preout. The CH5/6 summing and bassFREQ stage is what determines whether this amplifier alone can complete a 3-channel system, or whether it's better paired with a source that already provides independent front and sub signals.
