ESB Audio 2.6K2X — Duemila 2000 Series 2-Way Speaker System
The ESB 2.6K2X is the 2-way component system in the Duemila 2000 Series, pairing the 2.165 II 6.5"/165 mm mid-woofer with the 2.25 1"/25 mm soft-dome tweeter. Both drivers are 4 ohms, and the system is supplied as a pair with its passive crossover components.
The 2.6K2X is the 1-inch tweeter configuration of ESB's 2000 Series 2-way platform. The 2.6K2XP uses the same 2.165 II mid-woofer with the larger 2.28 1.1"/28 mm tweeter. The difference is not simply a question of which one is "better." It is a difference in tweeter format and the way the system can be integrated into the vehicle.

A Matched Two-Way Platform
The published sensitivity figures for the two drivers are closely aligned:
- 2.165 II mid-woofer: 88.5 dB @ 1W/1m
- 2.25 tweeter: 89.0 dB @ 1W/1m
That close match is useful in a passive two-way because the two drivers begin with similar sensitivity rather than requiring a large difference in level between the woofer and tweeter. It gives the crossover network a relatively straightforward starting point for integrating the two drivers.
The 2.6K2XP takes a different approach with the 2.28 tweeter. Its published sensitivity is 91.0 dB @ 1W/1m, and its larger 28 mm format supports a lower published crossover range than the 2.25. Neither approach is inherently the right choice for every installation; the useful question is which tweeter and crossover arrangement better fits the system being built.
The Inline Crossover
The 2.6K2X uses an inline passive crossover arrangement rather than a conventional large crossover enclosure. The module sits in the tweeter circuit, allowing it to be tucked behind the vehicle's trim rather than requiring a separate mounting location for a crossover box.
That makes a difference during installation. There is no large network to mount inside the door, under a seat, or behind a kick panel, and the tweeter circuit can be integrated without creating another dedicated component location in the vehicle.
The tradeoff is equally straightforward: an inline network provides less installation flexibility than a larger passive crossover with multiple adjustment options. In a system where tweeter level needs to be changed, that adjustment may need to come from the head unit or DSP rather than from the passive network itself.
The 2.165 II Mid-Woofer
The 2.165 II is a 6.5"/165 mm mid-woofer built around a 25 mm voice coil, Y-35 ferrite motor, fiberglass-reinforced ABS basket, and pressed-paper cone with waterproof treatment.
ESB uses the paper cone for the combination of low mass, stiffness, and internal damping that paper can provide. The waterproof treatment is particularly relevant in a vehicle door, where the speaker can be exposed to moisture.
The Perbunan rubber surround provides the suspension for the cone, while the fiberglass-reinforced ABS basket is designed for torsional rigidity and controlled airflow around the rear of the driver. The 25 mm voice coil uses an aluminum former with a double-layer copper/aluminum winding.
Its published parameters are equally important when deciding where this driver belongs. With a Qts of 0.611, a 64.98 Hz Fs, and a recommended amplifier range of 40–200 W RMS, the 2.165 II is well suited to the kind of door-mounted application commonly used for a 6.5-inch automotive mid-woofer. The actual low-frequency result will still depend heavily on door sealing, treatment, mounting, and the system's high-pass filter.
The 2.25 Tweeter
The 2.25 is a 1"/25 mm soft-dome tweeter using a silk-impregnated fabric dome, a 25.4 mm voice coil, aluminum former, neodymium motor, ferrofluid cooling and damping, and ESB's SVS ventilation design.
The tweeter is rated for 80 W continuous and 160 W peak, with a recommended amplifier range of 20–110 W RMS. Its published sensitivity is 89.0 dB @ 1W/1m, with a design bandwidth extending to 25 kHz when the appropriate high-pass filter is used.
The low-mass fabric dome and damping treatment are part of ESB's approach to controlling unwanted vibration while maintaining an extended response. The vented voice-coil structure also provides a path for cooling and reduces air compression behind the dome.
Where the Drivers Hand Off
ESB publishes the usable operating range of each driver according to filter slope. That gives a more useful picture of the system than simply looking at the headline frequency-response numbers.
2.165 II mid-woofer

That overlap gives the installer several options for establishing the transition between the woofer and tweeter. In a passive installation, the supplied network establishes that relationship. In an active DSP system, the published driver limits provide a useful starting point for selecting crossover points and slopes.
At the bottom end, ESB's published design bandwidth begins at 90 Hz with a 12 dB/octave high-pass filter. In a vehicle where the system is expected to reproduce deep bass, a subwoofer should therefore handle the range below the front stage rather than asking the 6.5-inch mid-woofer to do everything.
System Application
The 2.6K2X makes sense as the front stage of a system built around a conventional 2-way architecture: one mid-woofer and one tweeter per side, with the low-frequency range handed to a subwoofer.
The woofer's recommended amplifier range of 40–200 W RMS gives the system flexibility. It can be used with moderate amplification, while additional amplifier power can provide more available headroom when the rest of the system is designed to take advantage of it.
Within the 2000 Series, the 2.6K2XP uses the same 2.165 II mid-woofer with the larger 2.28 tweeter, while the 2.6K3U builds a three-way system around the same woofer and ESB's 2.UMA mid-high unit.
Installation Considerations
Check mounting depth before cutting the door. The 2.165 II measures 165 mm across the frame, uses a 145 mm mounting diameter, and has a published mounting depth of 64 mm with 74 mm total height. Always verify clearance to the window mechanism, door structure, and trim in the specific vehicle.
Seal the woofer to the mounting surface. A door-mounted speaker depends on the installation to separate the front and rear acoustic radiation. A solid mounting surface, proper sealing, and appropriate door treatment are therefore part of the speaker system rather than optional finishing touches.
Protect the inline crossover module. Keep it supported and protected from pinching, abrasion, and direct exposure to moisture inside the door.
Plan the tweeter location before installation. The 2.25 includes flexible mounting options, allowing the tweeter to be positioned in locations such as the A-pillar or upper door depending on the vehicle. The physical relationship between the tweeter and woofer matters in a passive two-way because there is no DSP delay available to correct large differences in acoustic arrival time.
Use the appropriate high-pass filtering. The published driver bandwidth assumes the specified filter slopes. Do not operate the tweeter without its crossover protection, and do not expect the 6.5-inch woofer to reproduce deep sub-bass at high output.
Observe correct polarity. Connect both sides consistently and verify polarity during system setup.

HF Audio Perspective
The 2.6K2X is a good example of why speaker selection should start with the installation rather than the largest number on the specification sheet.
The 2.6K2X and 2.6K2XP share the same 2.165 II mid-woofer, but they use different tweeter formats. The 2.25 is the 1-inch option, while the 2.28 in the XP is 1.1 inches and has a lower published usable crossover range. That difference becomes relevant when deciding how the front stage will be crossed over and how the tweeters will be positioned in the vehicle.
The 2.6K2X also takes a practical approach to installation with its inline passive crossover arrangement. That can be particularly useful when space for conventional crossover boxes is limited and the system is intended to remain a straightforward passive two-way.
For a DSP-based system, the decision becomes more installation-specific. The ability to select crossover points, slopes, equalization, and time alignment gives the installer more control over how either tweeter integrates with the 2.165 II.
Whichever configuration is selected, the speaker is only one part of the system. Door construction, mounting, acoustic treatment, amplifier power, crossover strategy, tweeter placement, DSP configuration, and subwoofer integration will all influence the final result.
