Overview

Built for the install, not the spec sheet

A Two-Way Component System with a Larger Format Tweeter

The ESB 2000 Series 2.6K2XP is a two-way component speaker system pairing the 2.165 II mid-woofer with the 2.28 — a 1.1-inch (28mm) soft dome tweeter.

The XP designation identifies the larger tweeter format within the 2000 Series two-way lineup. The 2.28 was selected for its combination of lower resonant frequency, extended bandwidth, and slightly higher output capability compared to the 1-inch 2.25 tweeter used in the 2.6K2X.

The 2.28 Soft Dome Tweeter

The 2.28 uses a silk-impregnated fabric dome diaphragm chosen for its low moving mass and natural internal damping. The voice coil is ventilated and cooled with iron-fluid oil to maintain consistent performance during extended operation. The larger 28mm dome diameter supports a lower usable crossover point compared to a 25mm tweeter.

The 2.165 II Mid-Woofer

The 2.165 II provides the low-frequency foundation. The basket was designed for torsional rigidity. A pressed paper cone with waterproof treatment and Y-35 ferrite magnet motor support consistent, controlled performance.

Specifications: 4 ohm nominal impedance, 120W nominal power handling, 240W transient, 65 Hz to 9 kHz frequency response, 91.5 dB sensitivity at 2.83V/1m.

Designed for Real-World Installation

The 2.6K2XP suits door and A-pillar configurations in most vehicles. The 2.28 tweeter works well in A-pillar pods and upper door locations. The 2.165 II handles the door location.

HF Audio Perspective

Between the 2.6K2X and the 2.6K2XP, the choice comes down to tweeter size and crossover requirements. The larger 2.28 tweeter in the XP allows for a lower crossover point, which can be an advantage in active system configurations where precise crossover placement matters.

Both are capable starting points for a two-way front stage in the 2000 Series. The right choice depends on the installation and how the system will be configured.
