A separate woofer and tweeter versus a coaxial; a fundamental step in system architecture that unlocks imaging and soundstage depth that no coaxial can achieve. The 3.165 uses a Y-35 grade ferrite magnet and waterproof-treated pressed paper cone — materials ESB specifies for their ideal balance of lightness, stiffness, and self-damping. The 3.28 uses a silk-impregnated fabric dome with an oversized, iron-fluid damped voice coil for smooth, extended high-frequency response without fatigue. Crossover sold separately (3.6K2 CX for passive). The most popular ESB system for builders upgrading from factory speakers. Pair with a Zapco or Harmony 2-channel (plus crossover) or 4-channel amplifier and a subwoofer for a complete Italian daily driver system.
