Reference Three-Way Performance with a Squared Tweeter Housing

The ESB 8000 Series 8.6K3S is a three-way component speaker system combining the 8.165 mid-woofer, 8.075 midrange, and 8.028S Torcon dome tweeter in a squared housing configuration. In driver performance, construction quality, and material specification, it is identical to the 8.6K3. The distinction is the tweeter housing profile — squared rather than rounded — which provides different mounting geometry for installations where a flush or recessed tweeter position is required.

The choice between the 8.6K3 and 8.6K3S is made entirely by the installation requirement. Where the driver is placed, how it is mounted, and what the mounting location allows should determine which variant is correct for the build.

The 8.028S Torcon Dome Tweeter

The 8.028S uses the same Torcon PPS dome, N52 neodymium motor, pure copper ring, and 7000 aluminum alloy CNC-machined body as the 8.028 rounded variant. The squared housing provides a different outer profile that accommodates installation locations where a circular rounded housing would not mount cleanly or flush.

The 8.075 Midrange and 8.165 Mid-Woofer

Both drivers are identical to those in the 8.6K3. 7000 aluminum alloy CNC-machined basket on the 8.165. Non-pressed paper cone. Oversized Y-35 magnet. Advanced voice coil ventilation. The same manufacturing standard and design goals throughout.

Designed for Real-World Installation

The 8.6K3S suits installations where the squared tweeter housing allows for a better mounting solution — OEM-style locations, recessed mounting panels, or any position where the rounded profile of the 8.028 would not seat correctly. The system works with the 8.6K3 CX passive crossover and supports active DSP integration.
