Overview

Built for the install, not the spec sheet

A 10-Inch Subwoofer Designed for Lower-Impedance Amplifier Pairings

The ESB 3000 Series 3.10D2 is a 10-inch dual voice coil subwoofer with 2+2 ohm impedance. It shares the same driver design and performance goals as the 3.10D4, but is designed for amplifier configurations that operate most efficiently at lower impedance loads.

The 2+2 ohm dual voice coil allows the coils to be wired in series (4 ohm) or in parallel (1 ohm). For mono amplifiers rated for 1-ohm stable operation, the parallel configuration can help maximize power delivery from the amplifier into the driver.

Driver Design

The 3.10D2 uses the same non-pressed paper cone, long-throw foam surround, and dual ferrite magnet structure as the 3.10D4. The design goal is the same: controlled, accurate low-frequency reproduction that works within a complete system rather than dominating it.

Specifications: 2+2 ohm dual voice coil, 300W RMS power handling, 600W transient, 33 Hz to 400 Hz frequency response, 87.4 dB sensitivity at 2.83V/1m.

Enclosure Considerations

ESB provides sealed and ported enclosure recommendations for the 3.10D2. A sealed enclosure produces controlled, accurate bass suited to music-focused systems. A ported design increases output efficiency with some tradeoff in transient response. The right approach depends on the system goals and available enclosure volume.

Designed for Real-World Installation

The 3.10D2 suits trunk and custom enclosure installations where a 1-ohm or 4-ohm final load is preferred. If the amplifier in the system is rated for 1-ohm operation, the 3.10D2 is the better choice over the 3.10D4. If the amplifier is most efficient at 2 or 4 ohms, the 3.10D4 is the more appropriate option.

HF Audio Perspective

The choice between the 3.10D2 and 3.10D4 is determined by the amplifier in the system, not by a difference in performance capability. Selecting the correct impedance configuration for the amplifier allows the complete system to operate as intended.

As with any subwoofer installation, the enclosure design and overall system integration will have as much influence on the result as the driver selection.
