The Primary Tweeter for ESB 3000 Series Front Stage Systems

The ESB 3.28 is a 1.1-inch (28mm) soft dome tweeter. It is the primary tweeter used in the 3.6K3 and 3.6K2 speaker systems, and is available as a standalone driver for custom front stage builds.

The 3.28 handles the high-frequency portion of the front stage — the range where treble extension, spatial information, and high-frequency accuracy are determined.

Design

The 3.28 uses a silk-impregnated fabric dome diaphragm. This material was selected for its combination of low moving mass and natural internal damping — characteristics that support smooth, extended high-frequency response without added brightness or harshness.

The voice coil is ventilated and damped with iron-fluid oil. This helps maintain consistent performance during sustained high-output operation and supports the power handling specification.

Specifications: 4 ohm nominal impedance, 90W nominal power handling, 180W transient, 900 Hz to 25 kHz frequency response, 94 dB sensitivity at 2.83V/1m.

System Application

The 3.28 is used with the 3.165 woofer in the 3.6K2 two-way system, and with the 3.165 and 3.90 midrange in the 3.6K3 three-way system. It is compatible with the 3.6K3 CX, 3.6K3HE CX, and 3.6K2 CX passive crossover networks, and works well in active configurations.

Tweeter placement in an A-pillar location angled toward the listening position typically produces the best results for front staging.

Tweeter selection and placement both matter. A tweeter that performs accurately in its frequency range, installed in a location that addresses the listening position, contributes meaningfully to the imaging and detail of the front stage.

The 3.28 provides the high-frequency capability the 3000 Series system is designed around at a practical price point. Placement and crossover configuration will have as much influence on the result as the driver itself.
