The ESB 8.028 is the 8000 Series' 1.1-inch (28mm) Torcon dome tweeter in a rounded housing configuration. It is the high-frequency driver in the 8.6K3 and 8.6K2 speaker systems, and is available as a standalone driver for custom builds and active front stage installations.

Design

The 8.028 uses a Torcon soft dome — a specialized Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) material that provides superior heat resistance, low moving mass, and excellent self-damping compared to conventional silk domes. The result is a tweeter that maintains linear behavior outside the audible range, reducing measured distortion and the listening fatigue that occurs when high-frequency drivers produce out-of-band resonances.

The tweeter body is machined from 7000 aluminum alloy by CNC — a manufacturing process that ESB specifically describes as producing a structure with practically zero tolerances for maximum consistency of performance and linearity of reproduction, free from vibration and resonance. The 28mm voice coil was chosen as the best compromise between the power handling of a larger coil and the mass advantages of a smaller one. An N52 neodymium magnet drives the assembly, with a pure copper ring added to reduce harmonic distortion. FEM analysis optimized all metal components of the magnetic circuit for maximum flux linearity throughout the voice coil excursion.

System Application

The 8.028 rounded housing is used in the 8.6K3 and 8.6K2 speaker systems. As a standalone driver, it works well in A-pillar and upper door locations in active and passive front stage configurations. Compatible with the 8.6K3 CX and 8.6K2 CX passive crossover networks.
