Design

Air-wound coils using 1.5mm diameter 99.9% pure copper wire. Very high quality bi-metallized capacitors — not electrolytic — for maximum transparency in mid and high-frequency reproduction, with a parallel capacitor configuration on the tweeter section to improve response speed. Anti-inductive resistors with aluminum dissipating bodies to handle high power while maintaining consistent resistance. Gold-plated, large-diameter parameter adjustment jumpers for zero-resistance connection and high load capacity. Gold-plated spacers and screws throughout. Multi-amp or single amp connection support. Clear acrylic cover for ventilation and component protection.

System Application

The 8.6K3 CX is designed for passive three-way 8000 Series configurations using the 8.165 woofer, 8.075 midrange, and 8.028 or 8.028S tweeter. It is compatible with the 8.6K3, 8.6K3S, and 8.6K3U system kits, and is available as a standalone component for custom 8000 Series three-way builds.

HF Audio Perspective

An 8000 Series front stage deserves a crossover built to its standard. The 8.6K3 CX uses 99.9% pure copper air-wound coils and bi-metallized capacitors because lower-grade components introduce measurement inaccuracy and signal coloration that would undermine what the 8000 Series drivers are capable of producing. For committed passive 8000 Series builds, the 8.6K3 CX is the correct crossover — not a reasonable alternative to active DSP, but the best passive option available for the system.
