The thinPRO10-4 is a 10-inch subwoofer built for a 2-7/8" mounting depth, using a 9-1/16" (230mm) cutout. It is a single-voice-coil driver with a 4Ω nominal impedance, built on the same shallow-mount platform architecture as the thinPRO12 but sized to a smaller cutout, mounting depth, and voice coil diameter. Wāvtech also documents a 2Ω version of this platform, the thinPRO10-2.

Key Design Features

The same patent-pending suspension and motor architecture found across the thinPRO line gives this driver 20mm of linear one-way excursion and 54mm of peak-to-peak mechanical travel, rated at 750W RMS (2250W peak) — the same power rating as the larger thinPRO12, achieved here with a 4-1/2" voice coil rather than the 12-inch model's 5-inch coil.

The suspension uses dual mirrored NBR spiders with a reinforced force-transfer assembly and a double-roll NBR surround, built to control the moving assembly through the driver's full excursion range within the shallow chassis. The motor is an FEA-optimized dual-gap structure driving a 4-layer, high-temperature voice coil wound on a vented polyimide composite former. The cone is a honeycomb composite of Nomex and glass fiber, and the gasket/trim ring is reverse-mountable for installations with limited front-side clearance.

System Application

A single thinPRO10-4 presents a 4Ω load to the amplifier. The thinPRO10-4 is specified for both sealed and ported alignments. Sealed volumes range from 0.2–0.6 ft³ with a Qtc range of 0.7–1.0, and 0.35 ft³ documented as the preferred volume. Ported volumes range from 0.4–1.0 ft³, tuned between 27–38Hz, with 0.6 ft³ preferred.

Installation Considerations

The 2-7/8" mounting depth and 9-1/16" cutout target locations even more space-constrained than a 3-inch, 12-inch driver would allow — smaller cargo areas, tighter under-seat cavities, and similar applications. The vehicle should be measured directly before fabrication to confirm basket, motor, terminal, and trim clearance.

For the ported alignment, Wāvtech recommends a −24dB/octave subsonic filter set at or below the enclosure's tuning frequency (Fb) to prevent over-excursion below tune, where a ported enclosure provides substantially less acoustic loading than at or above resonance.

The thinPRO10-4 makes sense where even a 3-inch, 12-inch driver doesn't fit the available depth, or where the smaller diameter better matches the available mounting footprint, while the build still calls for the excursion and power handling of the thinPRO platform rather than a conventional low-excursion shallow subwoofer. As with the rest of the line, enclosure volume, tuning, amplifier power, and subsonic filtering should be planned together against the documented alignment data.
